The Dojo Mojo Casa House Design Revolution

The long overdue design revolution is here.

Thanks to the playful yet contemplative blockbuster 'Barbie' Mattel film, the Dojo mojo casa house has helped bring the imbalance of home design to light.

The Dojo Mojo Casa House inspired revolution is all about rediscovering the true essence of home design. Why? Because it's time for couples to embark on a journey where both voices are heard and celebrated.

Gone are the days when one partner took the back seat in design decisions, quietly surrendering their vision to maintain domestic peace. In truth, most couples share a mutual desire for a space that reflects both their desires, but the default setting in society is that home design is a pink job and historically men have been treated as a side seat passenger to decision making despite the fact that when it comes time to paying for the project, their sitting in the captains chair.

Picture this: one partner passionately takes the lead, while the other gracefully follows. It's a dance that's often driven by the belief that "happy wife, happy life" is the path of least resistance. But here's the twist - this philosophy can sometimes sow the seeds of discord in a relationship, especially when one person carries the weight of every design choice. Not only can it be fatiguing for the person making all the design decisions on their own, it can breed room for resentment later when the husband is left to digest a large bill and only a man den that he feels he can call his own.

Men are tired of taking the back seat to design and want a voice of their own when it comes to matters in their home.

They've long fantasized what it would be like to have space that echoed their desires without having to appease the ladies in their lives by giving up so much real estate when it comes to having a voice in their homes.

I'm broad stroking here and I have whitenesses first hand the polar opposite with some of our clients where the wife takes a passive passenger approach and the husband goes full throttle in making the bulk of the design but in my entire career, I can only count on one hand the number of times that has been the case. Historically, interior design decision making has been a 'pink job' but times are finally beginning to change.

It's time for a paradigm shift in how couples approach home decor. It's about creating a spirit of collaboration, not compromise. The most beautiful spaces are those that tell a well-rounded story, transcending labels of masculinity or femininity.

Often men are left one room of their own while their female counterpart takes over and dictates the design discussion. Unfortunately I see a lot of men silenced by their wives when it comes to discussion regarding their home. I like to see myself as an undercover agent for the underdog when working with couples who have a difficult time working harmoniously together.

Now there are those couples where one is sincerely indifferent and would rather be left out of the design decisions, but I like to encourage even the most passive design passengers of a design journey to share their voice and here's why.

In order to have a home that really nurtures you, your space must reflect who you are which means that your space must have threads of inspiration that echo who you are. There is no way to curate harmonious homes without the voice of two individuals coming through.

The very definition of harmony is: agreement; accord; harmonious relations. a consistent, orderly, or pleasing arrangement of parts; congruity. A home without harmony, is divorce waiting to happen.

When designed with intention, the essence of two individuals woven into the fibre of a home is far more dynamic and meaningful than the singular tonality of one persons biases.

Like any beautiful relationship, a home should honour both the individuality and the union of a couple. It should be a beautiful tapestry that tells a well rounded harmonious story.

Homes that are designed to nurture, foster more meaningful connection and those are the homes and relationships that withstand the test of time.
